Virtual Race Report: April 2015

Last month saw yet another exciting month of Virtual Running, as we enjoyed our first Virtual Marathon, celebrated a new Men’s 5K Record, and waited with bated breath for the results of the closest battle yet between UK Run Chat’s #TeamRed and #TeamBlue.

Despite many of you being unable to take part in some of last month’s races due to running in and training for your spring marathons,  we still clocked up an amazing 93 entries in April, with 13 new entrants taking us to a total of 158 runners this year so far.

Many of you celebrated new Personal Bests or ran your first 5K, 10K, Half Marathons and Marathons this month and we congratulate you all for your amazing achievements. In particular though, we would like to congratulate Richard Davies for setting an outstanding new Virtual Running 5K record of 16:55.

For many of you though, perhaps the most exciting part of last month’s Virtual Race Series was the competition between UK Run Chat’s #teamred and #teamblue runners.

With #teamblue dominating the competition for the first quarter of the year, winning 6 out of 8 UK Run Chat Races, the word on Twitter was that #teamred were out to redress the balance in April.

As well as winning the Half Marathon Race for the second month in a row, #teamred celebrated with first place positions from Tim Gray, Richard Wilcox and Ian Robertson in the 5K, 10K and Half Marathon respectively.

However, it wasn’t quite enough to beat #teamblue in the 10K as, with 6 blue runners to red’s 5, the Blues pipped the Reds at the post with their 3rd consecutive 10K win.

But perhaps the most exciting race of the month was the UK Run Chat 5K. While #teamred didn’t quite pull off the win they were looking for, they were able put an end to #teamblue’s clean sweep. turning the results table an interesting shade of purple with the Reds and the Blues winning 137 points apiece.

As always, we would like to thank all of who took part in this month’s virtual races and we hope that you will join us again soon for some more virtual running.
