Celebrating Success!

As we embark on our second year of virtual running, we wanted to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who has taken part in our virtual races in 2014 and, in particular, to celebrate your achievements for the past year.

The main purpose of Virtual Running UK is to encourage people to run regularly and to celebrate progress and personal achievements. That’s why, every month, we offer free virtual races to anyone who wants to take part. We do, of course, offer medals for those of you who want to earn some race bling for your collection, but the most important thing is that you take part, celebrate and enjoy your running.

Our annual points competition is designed with that in mind – to reward those of you who run regularly by allocating points to everyone for every race that they run. And so, without further ado, here are the results of the 2014 Virtual Running UK Points Competition:

2014 Points Competition

1st Place – Lindsey Williams
2nd Place – Lisa Myers
3rd Place – Fiona Cunningham

1st Place – Tony Livesey
2nd Place – Jason Chan
3rd Place – Andrew Eastwood

We would like to congratulate all of our winners for an amazing year of running, with PBs achieved and new distances conquered!

In particular, however, we want to give a special mention our overall winner, Lindsey Williams, who accumulated a massive 669 points over 15 races. As well as improving her 5K time from 32:00 to 24:32, and her 10K time from 55:54 to 53:28, Lindsey also took part in a half-marathon race with a time of 2:30:00, proving that hard work and consistency really do pay off!

5K Challenge Competition

We also introduced an extra competition in the Autumn, for the most improved 5K medal runner from October to December, and again saw some fantastic results! Congratulations go to…

1st Place – Fiona Sefton
Fiona has been running with us since May and is a regular participant in our weekly blog hop. She achieved a time of 30:48 in December, an improvement of 59 seconds from her November race, making her the most improved 5K medal runner for the final quarter of the year, and earning her the 1st place prize of a brand new 7″ Android Tablet.

2nd Place – Annie Jenkin
Annie has taken part all three 5K virtual races over the last three months, with 5K times of 25:27 and 25:30 for October and November, and a final time of 24:40 in December, earning her a free entry to this month’s medal race.

3rd Place – Rosalind Murch
Rosalind joined Virtual Running UK in November and got off to a great start with a time of 33:36, which she improved by 47 seconds in December. We look forward to seeing her progress further in the months to come and she has also won a free medal entry for January.

4th Place – Miriam Woodcraft
Miriam has been a regular participant, running in every 5K race since she joined us in August with a 5K time of 37:59. Since then, she has achieved a Virtual Running PB of 34:12, showing that running regularly really does make a difference! She also wins a free entry to January’s medal race.

Finally, we want to congratulate and thank all of you who have taken part in our virtual races this year. It has been an amazing first year for Virtual Running and it wouldn’t have happened without your participation, so thank you and here’s to another great year of running in 2015!
